Awareness and voting with wallets will drive AMD to improve. My guess is, the reason driver command lists never caught on with developers or AMD was because it wasn't worth the trouble. Face it, most games aren't CPU-limited, where this feature shines. This is slightly different than doing multi-threaded command lists in the driver (which chunks up a command list into multiple parts, to process on idle threads).

AMD does have a leg up on the lower level API driver development (as they should), but the extra resources from that leg up should be used to add more features You simply replied with "Try it or don't speak". The feature never gained much use -- I think Civilization and Assassin's Creed games were a couple of the few that used them? DX12 by "itself" will not write the AMD drivers code, AMD must do it and do it at LEAST with a similar (if not better) quality and performance than "Vendor A".
For example, if your engine does lots of work in between the API calls that it makes, then it would likely be beneficial to utilize multiple threads which could reduce the I'd say it was pretty important :P - you just don't see people advertise it, because it's a base feature of DX11. Ignoring raw speed, what exactly is the user-visible or dev-visible difference between a GTX 480 and a GTX 980? It's a huge hit to performance after more than a few minutes of runtime, though DCLs are very lovely at arbitrarily boosting benchmark scores on tests that run for ~30 seconds. Original articles are always better than a reddit textpost.
The situation is even more of an issue on the mainstream enthusiast 1080p section on the next page.
